Christmas: the After-Party

If your home looks anything like mine after the festivities, then you, too, are thinking, “Where am I going to put all of this stuff? How should I organize everything?"

The new toys, the new books, the new clothes, the… giant giraffe??? Where is it all going to go???

In a home already full of people and toys, it can be tough to get organized after the holidays.

Do you let everything hang out in the family room until the New Year, or do you stress to find each new gift a home of it’s own… pronto?

If you could give us only one piece of advice or tip for organizing the new additions, what would it be?

  1. I do a purge before holidays and birthdays .... I'm also a big fan of purchasing gifts with minimal clutter value -- like GCs for gymnastic lessons, art classes, etc.

  2. I did a purge before the gifts, and I also included organizational products as the gifts. Santa brought 2 little canvas storage boxes (1 for each girl) that look like cottages, and my mother got them a dress-up station to hang all of their dress-up clothes (yet to be assembled). I still don't know what to do with all of the art supplies. I already have a huge storage box that is overflowing. We asked family for things like gift certificates to Kazoing or lessons last year. It worked really well. We forgot to relay that request again this year.

  3. For each item added, one must be chosen to give away. Ideally, an item of similar size:-)
