Today’s Post from the Pro is a little different.  It is a single, poignant quote from Jennifer M. Koontz, author of the new book, When Your Centerpiece is Made of Play-Doh and the Dog Has Eaten Your Crayons: A Mother’s Perspective on Parenting.

Crafting with the Grandkids

The early spring weather and Easter brought out the crafting spirit in my granddaughter and me, recently. We gathered our supplies starting with a find from Yankee Candle shop….they were tossing out heavy packing cardboard that became a perfect “flower pot” container base for our Spring Easter Garden craft.

We also gathered:
  • Colored craft paper
  • Green pipe cleaners
  • Easter grass
  • Elmer’s glue and scissors
  • Raw egg shells, some cracked in half and some left whole with holes chipped in both ends for blowing out yolk and whites
  • Cotton balls
  • Jelly beans

We twisted green craft paper into flower stalks, but green pipe cleaners can work, also. We glued them vertically into Easter grass in the flower pots, adding leaves which I cut from the green craft paper, and we glued them onto the sides of the flower stalks. When the glue dried and the stalks were strong enough to stand on their own, we glued on red and purple petals I had cut to shape from craft paper, resulting in crafted tulips, which we then glued onto the tops of our stalks.

The whole eggs were crafted into bunnies hopping in our tulip garden, by gluing cotton balls onto the base of the egg in four places for feet, and adding a cotton ball tail. Eyes were glued-on black jelly bean pieces, as well as a pink jelly bean nose. Ears were cut from white craft paper and glued on top of the egg.
