Is a "Gap Year" Right for Your Graduate?

“Princeton encourages it. Harvard’s a big fan. From Tufts to MIT, some of the most prestigious universities in the nation are urging students to consider something that would make most parents cringe: The idea of putting off college for a year in favor of some much-needed downtime,” wrote Danielle Wood in an article devoted to the “gap year” and its potential benefits and downfalls.

We want to know your thoughts on this. Would you encourage your high school graduate to have a "gap year?"  Yes or No?

  1. I went to college right after high school. My freshman year went fine and I made decent grades, not great but decent. The next year wasn't as good. I was burnt out and I didn't really know what I wanted to major in. After that semester, I decided to drop out and take a break. After about a year off & working out in the "real world", I quickly knew that I had to go back in order to support myself & the life I wanted. After that, I made honor roll every semester & gradated with honors & even went on to get my masters. I think taking that year or so off was the best thing I could have done for myself!
