A New Gadget for Back-to-School

If you’re a worrier or just anxious when you send your child who has a medical condition or serious allergies off to school each year, worry no more.  There’s a cool new device that can give you a little peace of mind for back-to-school.

It’s called ScanMeKidz, and it comes as either a bracelet or shoe tag that has a QR code on it.  The bar code, which can be scanned with any smartphone or QR reader app, can contain your child’s medical history, medications, or personal information.

Honestly, what will they come up with next?

Make Your Own Firefly!

What a blast we’ve had this summer with backyard cookouts at sundown and spirited attempts to catch glowing bugs right out of the evening air with bare hands to create our own personal nightlights in a jar! Here is a summer craft to capture those glowing memories of summer one last time before school buses buzz the kiddos off to other enlightening pursuits.

  • 20 oz. well-cleaned plastic bottles with caps (green and clear are best)
  • 12-inch pipe cleaners (green, brown, black, and gold) for legs and antennae
  • Construction paper for wings
  • Glitter/glitter glue
  • Beads or buttons for eyes
  • One glow stick per bottle
  • Glue
  • Clear tape
  • Scissors
Bend three green, black, or brown pipe cleaners around middle of bottle. Twist together...
