Fun Halloween Craft for the Kids


The ‘aye’s!’ have it on this — by now, we know what a craft pack-rat Grandma is! To you, it might be a toss-away, but to me, it has a ‘role’ in Grandma’s grand crafting scheme. Or, did I mean…‘roll?’
Here is a fun and functional way to give those used toilet paper rolls we’ve been stockpiling new lives as Halloween decorations.

Collect:
• Cardboard toilet paper rolls
• Orange, black, brown, and yellow construction paper
• Scissors
• Glue

The Jack O' Lantern Spectacular will run October 10 – November 2, in Iroquois Park with 5,000 carved pumpkins lining a ¼-mile trail, illuminated at night as an “art show” daily from dusk to midnight during the week and 1 a.m. on the weekends.

Top Local Trick-or-Treating Events


Today is the first day of October, so let the Halloween fun begin.  Here is a great list of trick-or-treating opportunities all around Kentuckiana for your children.  If you know of any more that you'd like us to add to the list, please send a note to miranda@todayspublications.com. Enjoy!

Trunk or Treat @ Clark County Branch of the YMCA Center, 4812 Hamburg Pike, Jeffersonville
October 23rd, 6:30- 7:30 p.m.
Trunk or Treat will provide entertaining alternative to door-to-door trick-or-treating. Adults are invited to decorate their cars and hand out candy from open trunks to the children. For more information, call 812-283-9622, Ext. 224.

Halloween Festival In Brown Park
4th Saturday in October
The City of St. Matthews annual Halloween Festival in Brown Park is free to all and begins at 11 a.m. in Brown Park, located at the corner of Kresge Way and Browns Lane. Promptly at 11:30 a.m. the trick-or-treating begins at the pavilion.

House Rules Made Simple


With the Back-to-School issue being all about rules, we thought you'd like to know the rules that a few of our parent-writers have in their homes.  Enjoy!

At this point in life, our rules revolve mainly around screen time. As the mother of two confirmed vidiots and one adolescent texter, I have to lay down the law in that area. One hour on a school night and two hours on weekends, with mother's discretionary power!
