What to Do This Weekend: Family Time Fun

Now that we've stuffed ourselves on turkey, here are some fun family activities to fill the rest of our weekend!

• For many families, it's almost a tradition to go to the movies after Thanksgiving. Some kid-friendly options for this weekend include:
               • The Good Dinosaur, which opened Wednesday
               • Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, an option for the older kids

• The 35th annual Light-Up Louisville, powered by LG&E, will serve as a kickoff celebration to Louisville's Holiday in the City. Light Up Louisville will be held today with the arrival of Santa Claus, who will help illuminate downtown Louisville.

Gobble Up These Sweet Turkey Treats with Your Kids

My 10-year-old daughter Carly and I love to bake together. Mind you, I am not really a baker, or much of a cook at all, but she has shown great interest and I want to encourage her. We were roaming the aisles of Meijer over the weekend gathering Thanksgiving ingredients and were handed a holiday booklet full of recipes and coupons. Immediately Carly found these cute little turkeys we had to try. They are super easy and fun to do together (somehow handfuls of stray candy corn ended up in our mouths instead of on the cookies).

Try these Fun Family Activities to Curb Holiday Weight Gain

It's holiday time. Whew! Who has time to work out? You do! Especially since this is the time of year that people pack an extra 5 to 10 pounds on their body. Don’t be the turkey in your family this holiday season. Do these fun activities to stay healthy and lean.

Week 1:
• Everyday this week, add fruit and veggies in addition to your meal.
Together as a family, discuss what you ate that day. If someone in your family did not eat their fruits and veggies with each meal, they become the TURKEY! The turkey must add 10 push ups and 10 jumping jacks onto their exercise routine that day. The exercise routine is 25 jumping jacks and 10 push ups everyday for week 1.
