Moms Just Need a Moment

I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for eight years; so I’ve compiled a pretty long list of strategies for maintaining my composure when my kids are balls-to-the-wall bonkers and salsa dancing all over my nerves.

Taking a nature break works wonders for me and my kids. A walk around the block or sitting on the porch watching cars drive by can be just enough to get our minds off the mayhem that was threatening to unglue all of us.

Facebook is a great distraction. I can check in with other adults, many of whom are my mom-friends who are also doing everything in their power to maintain their composure in the face of tyrant toddlers and persnickety preschoolers. It always helps to know you are not alone.

Reading a magazine, drinking a cup of coffee with flavored creamer, calling my mom, flouncing on my bed in a “mommy timeout,” and venting on my blog are other things I do in an effort to maintain my sanity when I feel the weight of the world on my mom shoulders.
