Get Your Sparkle On!

Did you sparkle today?

For those of you who read my article in Today’s Family, you know exactly what I am asking when I ask if you sparked today!

We’ve all heard it a million times, “Take time to stop and smell the roses.” However, the roses never notice. To sparkle has basically the same meaning, to stop and take time to be present, only you do it with people, and trust me, they do notice. One perk, it’s not another moment in time when you’re only the giver. In this case, you actually receive.

It only takes a few seconds, but when someone enters a room, stop what you’re doing and look up. Make eye contact with the person and show them, in that split second, that they matter to you. It’s amazing how much more connected I have felt with my kids and husband just acknowledging them with eye contact when they enter a room. The best part, they acknowledge you right back.

In this day and age when everyday is programmed to the minute, we have to start looking at the seconds! And this is where you can make a difference. Everyone’s head seems to be down, either staring at a computer screen, a hand-held game, a telephone, a book of homework, a sink full of dishes, a washer full of wet clothes. LOOK UP, and don’t miss what’s happening right in front of you.

To teach your kids, and to remind yourself, that taking a second to stop what you are doing to engage and acknowledge, is important. Don’t miss the best part of your day!

  1. That is so true. I'm going to try it today. It'll be our secret (wink, wink)!
