From the greatest fireworks show around to a renowned festival that puts the “unity” in “community,” we have lots of fantastic events that are sure to knock your socks off this weekend...

 Thunder Over Louisville- Saturday, April 21; needs no introduction, a day-long event on both sides of the river with the Air Show beginning at 3pm, and fireworks 9:30pm-10pm


Family Volunteer Day- Saturday, April 21, 10am-1pm at Bernheim Arboretum and Research Forest in Clermont, KY; if the roar of the jets and the crowds are not up your alley, pack a picnic lunch, and take the family out of the city for the day to enjoy some outdoor volunteer time. Afterwards, hop over to the Children’s Play Garden for EcoKids (Every Child Outside), where the kids will participate in free, hands-on activities from 1-4pm.

Oh, while you’re there, don’t forget to take a look at the stick sculpture (see above photo) Patrick Daugherty is working on with the help of volunteers. It is truly amazing! The installation of this sculpture runs through April 26.

Uncle Maddio’s- Saturday, April 21, 11am-2pm; take the kids out for pizza, and they will enjoy a FREE kids art project while they’re there!



Mighty Kindness Hootenanny- Sunday, April 22 {Earth Day}, 12-5pm at the Louisville Nature Center across from the Louisville Zoo; a FREE festival where all the children’s activities are FREE- book giveaways, face painting, Enchanted Art Studio art activities, American Turners Youth Circus, and a FREE clothes swap area (so, bring the clothing that your kids grew out of and swap them!); plus, FREE workshops on Tai Chi, BodyTalk healing, Louisville Biodiesel Coop, and more!

Party for the Planet- Sunday, April 22, 10am-5pm at the Louisville Zoo; in honor of Earth Day, Special All-day admission is only $2 per person!
