What To Do This Weekend: Make a Splash!

It's heating up again this weekend, but no worries! Here are some events to keep you cool while having a blast with the whole family:
  • Kosair Children's Hospital is hosting its first-ever Splash 'n' Dash 5k this Saturday, August 1. Run or walk through Beckley Creek Park while staying cool with fun and refreshing splash zones. At the end of the course, stay and play in the "Just for Kids" Zone! Funds from this event, sponsored by Today's Family, go to benefit the children and families of Kosair Children's Hospital and its affiliates.
  • At Berheim Forest, this weekend's events happen once in a blue moon. Literally. SONICBernheim: Blue Moon and the Full "Blue" Moon Hike will give you and your family a chance to witness and learn about this rare lunar event.
Read on for more weekend fun!
  • Saturday, August 1, the Squallis Puppeteers present "Rage-O-Saurus Rex." This story about a baby T-Rex and Pterodactyl is geared towards a younger audience, teaching social and emotional skills through audience participation, as well as the wisdom of a talking volcano.
  • Have a underground adventure at the Louisville Mega Cavern, with attractions such as MegaZips, MegaQuest and the Mega Underground Bike Park!
  • Rides and roller coasters await you right in your own back yard! The newly renovated Kentucky Kingdom has something for everyone, including eight new rides this season alone. And if you start to overheat while waiting in line, jump over to Hurricane Bay for some waterpark fun!
  • Fly away to Neverland at Derby Dinner Playhouse's production of "Peter Pan." This timeless Broadway classic brings the excitement of pirates and pixie dust -- a guaranteed adventure the whole family can enjoy.
    • Don't miss the Louisville Bats as the go up against the Toledo Mud Hens this Friday at Slugger Field. Be sure to stay after the game for the Friday Night Fireworks show!
    • Calling all Harry Potter fans to the Kentucky Science Center! July 31, in honor of Harry's 35th birthday, the Science Center is presenting a special 8:30pm showing of the fifth movie in the series, "Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix," at a special ticket price of $9 and three quarters. Additional showings are available at regular price throughout the weekend.
