Fresh Salsa: Food Prep With Your Toddler

By Angel Lyn Nance

Summer is a great time to introduce your kids to new fruits and veggies. Everything tastes better fresh, and even your little ones can help prepare snacks. For instance, 2-year-olds can add fresh berries to yogurt, and 3-year-olds can slice peeled cucumbers with a butter knife.

By letting them be involved and being upbeat about trying new things, you may be surprised at what your kids will enjoy eating.

If dips make it easier for your little one to try new food, try adding one part plain yogurt to two parts ranch to make the dip a little healthier, or make this easy mild salsa together:

Fresh Mild Salsa

4-5 tomatoes
½ of a small onion
1 jalapeno (remove seeds for mild)
1 garlic clove
1 small bell pepper
2T fresh cilantro, optional
juice of one lime

Either toss everything into a food processor and blend, or dice ingredients by hand.
