What To Do This Weekend

This Veterans Day weekend, there are opportunities to celebrate our veterans, commemorate their service to our country, and learn more about our country's military history. There are also chances to create art, get outdoors, enjoy some holiday festivities, and more.

Get some weekend family fun ideas from the picks below:

  • Take the family on the November Full Moon Hike at Charlestown State Park in Charlestown, Indiana. (A Red flashlight, hiking stick and good shoes are encouraged.)

  • Be fascinated by STOMP, the inventive and invigorating stage show that's dance, music and theatrical performance blended together. Matchboxes, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters, and more fill the stage with energizing beats as part of this YUM! Family Series Program at The Kentucky Center.

  • Give your kids the opportunity to ask four favorite authors questions and get their books signed at Carmichael's Bookstore. The family can enjoy a reading with Brooks Benjamin, Gail Nall, K.E. Ormsbee, and Lois Sepahban. This is an event best for 8-13 year olds.

  • Show your love for our veterans at the Louisville’s Veterans Day Parade. A special Pearl Harbor exhibit (see below) will be open at the Frazier History Museum after the parade ends.

  • In commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the attack and to commemorate Veteran's Day, take your family to the Frazier Museum exhibit A Morning That Changed the World: Personal Stories of Pearl Harbor. The immersive, thought-provoking exhibition delves into this fateful event with stories told by people who experienced this moment in history.

  • If your family is feeling artsy, take in Family Fun Day: Nature's Goodness at the Kentucky Museum of Art and Craft. Learn how to make corn husk dolls using materials you can find in your garden, and make a banner of Autumn leaves using paper folding and watercolor paints.

  • Gear up for the holidays with the 27th annual Festival of Trees & Lights hosted by the Children's Hospital Foundation. Hundreds of volunteers design and decorate Christmas trees, wreaths, and hand crafted holiday items, all of which are for sale to raise funds for Kosair Children's Hospital. Enjoy many children's activities including crafting candy cane mice, candy crackers, and reindeer antlers, and taking part in face painting and a photo op with Santa.

  • Grab on tight and feel the thunder of the North American Championship Rodeo as the circuit finals for the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) stampedes into Freedom Hall.

Have a great weekend!
