Gift Ideas for Father’s Day

If you need a few ideas for Father's Day gifts this year, here are a couple of 'tried and true' ones, along with one that's relatively brand spanking new!

Let's start with 'tried and true' … most likely, the dads in your life enjoy the barbecue, golf, or both. Your gift expert always thinks 'local' and would like to recommend a few Louisville area artisans that produce spices perfect for the BBQ.

Bourbon Barrel Foods, perhaps the best known, is located at Butchertown Market and is famous for their bourbon barrel aged Bluegrass Soy Sauce. They also make several uniquely Kentucky gourmet sauces and marinades.
Shell-Bees Gourmet Salts and Spices sports the 'highest quality Kentucky home-smoked sea salts, sugar blends, and spice products,' one of which is a tasty steak blend.
Kilamanjaro Foods has created a whole bevy of spices and sauces with a decidedly African flair. This should be your source for curry and jerk rubs, sauces, and syrups that'll inspire new creations from Dad.
Visit all of these sites for more specific product info, product locators, and recipes.

If golf is the right idea this year, giving a Kentucky Golf Tour Book from the American Lung Association could be your game. The book, which costs $35.00 and lists 470 golf facilities in Kentucky and a few other Mid-Western states, offers a combined value of $5000. Buy 3 and get one free!

Lastly, since beer IS the next best spirit in town, a six pack or growler of craft beer could gain you best-in-show honors this Father's Day.

We have several local options that are independently-owned and a few that make their own suds.

The brand new gift idea this year is the "Kentucky Bourbon Trail Toolkit."
Visit the Kentucky Bourbon Trail website for maps, information, and passport downloads. Print everything Dad will need, fold them nicely, and wrap them up in a gift box. It'd be oh-so-complete if you include some accoutrements … like cigars, matches and mints, bottled waters, roasted nuts, and a gift card to help with gas or lunch along the trail.

Per the site, collecting passport stamps from all six distilleries will earn Dad a complimentary Kentucky Bourbon Trail T-shirt to commemorate his visit.
