So Much Candy!

If your family is anything like our families, we know your kids probably received an obnoxious amount of candy last night.  So, to keep the cavities at bay, here are some helpful tips from Dr. Korie of Derby City Pediatric Dentistry:

Best Candy: Sugar-free is the best choice, like lollipops or chewing gum. Besides sugar-free, dark chocolate is a good choice because of the added benefits it can have on your body.

Worst Candy:
Sour and sticky candy, like Sour Patch Kids and Laffy Taffy, because acid can help dissolve the teeth while sugar can stick to grooves & in between teeth.

Alternative Treat for Kids: Individual pretzel bags. While these types of treats are better than pure sugar for your teeth, what kids do after they eat their candy is most important!

After Candy Consumption: Have kids rinse their mouths with water to wash away sugar and acid. Eating cheese (believe it or not!) and chewing gum can remove the sugar and acid and stimulate saliva production to rinse the mouth out. Finally, brushing those teeth will help loosen and remove any leftover candy and sugar!

Of course, if you want to avoid the the candy altogether, have your kids don their Halloween costumes one last time tonight and take them to Earth Fare at The Summit for their Trick or Trade-in event at 6:30pm.

Your kids can bring in the unhealthy Halloween candy they received and trade it in for some all-natural treats and participate in a Halloween costume contest!  Plus, don’t forget that kids eat FREE every Thursday from 4-8pm at Earth Fare with one adult entrĂ©e purchase!
