Snow Day Cookies

Christmas and the holidays may well be a pleasant memory to us all by now, but there is still plenty of winter (including, we hope, a decent snowfall) ahead to be enjoyed. Here is a fun way to conjure up visions of snow if not already a reality outside, and a delicious treat to make while snuggled inside on a cold wintry day.

SNOWMAN COOKIES
Ingredients:
• Sugar cookies (either homemade or store-bought) - 1 dozen
• White sugar cookie icing - 1 cup powdered sugar mixed with 4 tsp. milk
• Chocolate icing
• Ziploc bags
• Food coloring
• Marshmallows (regular size and miniature)
• Pretzel sticks or small pretzels

First, create different icing colors by adding food coloring to original batch of white cookie icing and spoon these into ziploc bags (with tiny corners snipped for piping).

Set aside some white icing and spoon in a pooling effect over cookies. Next, place one regular marshmallow onto each white-iced cookie and push down to help it adhere.

Pipe snowman scarf, face, and buttons onto the icing and marshmallow, using the ziploc bags with different colored icings. We used the chocolate icing for eyes and other features.

At this point, you could pipe chocolate stick arms onto the icing, or you might want to engage in a snowball fight with your snowman! Stick small pretzel pieces into the base cookie icing for snowman “arms.” Finally, add miniature marshmallows or pieces to the ends of each arm.

Don’t forget to duck!
