As usual, we have a great list of events for your family this weekend, but we also wanted to let you know that today is International STAND UP to Bullying Day. To commemorate this day, let's all pledge to be extra kind to everyone, even those who are unkind to us because a kinder world is a better world.
According to StopBullying.gov, there are three types of bullying: verbal, social, and physical.
Verbal bullying is saying or writing mean things, and includes:
- Teasing
- Name-calling
- Inappropriate comments
- Taunting
- Threatening to cause harm
Social bullying, sometimes referred to as relational bullying, involves hurting someone's reputation or relationships, and includes:
- Leaving someone out on purpose
- Telling other children not to be friends with someone
- Spreading rumors about someone
- Embarrassing someone in public
Physical bullying involves hurting a person's body or possessions, and includes:
- Hitting/kicking/pinching
- Spitting
- Tripping/pushing
- Taking or breaking someone's things
- Making mean or rude hand gestures
