What To Do This Weekend: Celebrate with the Symphony!

Louisville is celebrating the 4th of July with a slew of activities for the whole family! Here are some activities to check out this weekend:
  • Celebrate with the symphony this weekend at the Louisville Orchestra Waterfront 4th fueled by Thorntons. The event will take place on the Great Lawn at Waterfront Park and is free for all. Events begin at 5 pm with a kids play area, open bar, and gourmet food. At 8:15 activities will settle down to make way for the main event: a performance by the Louisville Orchestra, featuring conductor Teddy Abrams, cellist Ben Sollee, and Jecorey "1200" Arthur. Following the conclusion of the concert are celebratory fireworks over the Ohio River.
  • The Mid-American Miniature Horse Club is coming to Kentucky Horse Park for the Julep Cup Show. Join them for their Event Evening Saturday, July 4th, to catch a variety of driving classes, Antique Vehicle Driving, and the Roadster Class and Senior Stallions. Not to mention beautifully dressed exhibitors and miniature horses. Showing will take place at Alltech Arena in Lexington, Kentucky.
  • The magic continues at the Kentucky Science Center with the third film of the Harry Potter Summer Series, "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban." Showings are Friday and Saturday at 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm.
  • Take the family out to Slugger Field this Friday for the Louisville Bats July 3rd Fireworks Extravaganza. After the Bats compete against the Clippers, enjoy a special display of pyrotechnics right from your stadium seats. Free Bats logo hats will be given to the first 2,000 fans through the gate! Gate opens at 5:45 pm with game time starting at 6:45 pm.

This event features over 100 vendors offering a variety of hand-made local items such as jewelry, clothing, and soaps. Local foods and live music are also to be enjoyed. A great afternoon out for the whole family!
  • Follow the yellow brick road to Jeffersonville's RiverStage Concert Series! July 3-5 at 7 pm, the RiverPops will be performing musical numbers from the classic film, "The Wizard of Oz." The event is free and fun for the whole family, just don't forget your lawn chairs!
  • This Saturday, the Louisville City FC face off against the Richmond Kickers at Slugger Field. Enjoy local food and activities at the Waterfront before catching the 7:30 pm kick off. Fireworks over the Ohio will follow the conclusion of the match (as well as the orchestra concert).
  • This Friday, the Louisville Free Public Library is teaming up with the Louisville Water Company to provide an engaging educational program for kids. The "Water is Fun!" program offers hands-on activities for kids ages 4-10. The event starts at 2:30 pm with limited space available. Don't miss out the chance to learn and make a splash!
